Settling into Training for 2013!

Since my last blog I have moved house twice, and travelled to the other side of the world to prepare for the 2013 season in the heat. You can’t blame me I have left behind the winter miles so that I can get out on that bike and train hard. 2012 was a satisfying season but one I’d like to put behind me, since the end of 2010 I have been Injured and struggled to find motivation. However its only been in the past month that I have found new light with my complicated running injury problem and I can say its a great feeling to be back on track.

Everything feels so much easier when you don’t have to walk around dragging your leg behind you, I can bounce out of bed in the morning and look forward to the session Michelle throw’s at me, so very much looking forward to my season this year.

Christmas went flying by this year probably because I was so busy, however I spent Christmas and New Year in Adelaide South Australia with Michelle’s Family and we had a fantastic time. The weather was excellent it didn’t rain once and the climate is very similar to Spain which is where I spent a lot of my time when I was growing up with my parents.

On New Years Day I decided to go out for a swim in the Ocean, so we headed to Norlunger Beach, this beach was voted one of the best beaches is Australia because of it’s crystal clear waters and amazing white sands.  I swam out to the reef which was about 200m off the beach. It was amazing out there and full of fish, divers and snorkeler’s.  South Australia is well known for its Great White sharks and every couple of years sadly someone becomes  a victim. This made my swim a little less enjoyable and was constantly in the back of my mind. Every few strokes I would take a look around me to see if I could feel or see anything,`apart from a plane flying over my head and a bit of seaweed nothing much to worry about and thankfully I was ok.

Riding in South Australia was as equally amazing, you have the hills out back and the flat along the coast and with the Tour Down Under start just around the corner from where I was staying I got to ride along some of those miles. I even met a few guys while out riding and they took me in as their own. They twisted my arm to do a short and sharp Time Trial one evening. I couldn’t really say no, so I went along for a bit of fun and at this stage no threshold work had been done so I was ready to be in a whole world of pain. However after changing my set up on my bike this year I actually felt pretty good and rode well first up. Michelle & her dad drove the course in the car behind me cheering me on so I couldn’t stop pedaling as I knew they had their eyes on me. I ended up 3rd overall and my first thought after crossing the line was, I need more of that push. I loved it, when you have old boys ahead of you and your chasing them down it keeps you on your toes!

The running well it matches the swim and bike really and I would love to go back there at some point and do a stint of training, I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was one of the most relaxing christmas’s I have had in a long time.

I am now set up on the Gold Coast spending the next 4 months training here, I am also looking forward to Emma Pallant joining us next week, Michelle has recently taken Emma under her wing. A newbie to the triathlon scene with a whole lot of potential, look out for her name in the near future.

Train well over the winter, be smart and best wishes for 2013!
